The Tales Of Bath s Tale - 984 Words
The Canterbury Tales provides an array of tales, specifically two tales in which one better provides the most meaning and delight compared to the other. ââ¬Å"The Wife of Bathââ¬â¢s Prologue and Taleâ⬠represents the view and desires of women during that time period. ââ¬Å"The Pardonerââ¬â¢s Prologue and Taleâ⬠describes the type of person the Pardoner is along with how money can be evil. In The Canterbury Tales, ââ¬Å"The Pardonerââ¬â¢s Taleâ⬠, provides the most moral meaning compared to ââ¬Å"The Wife of Bathââ¬â¢s Taleâ⬠by stating that greed can manipulate people into plotting unspeakable actions unto each other. In the prologue of ââ¬Å"The Pardonerââ¬â¢s Taleâ⬠, he describes himself and he is also states that he is a preacher who is only after money. He tells his audience that, ââ¬Å"By this guade have I wonne, yeer by yeer, A hundred mark, sith I was pardonerâ⬠(lines 101-02). A preacher is supposed to have concern for the one s who have committed sins. The preacer is there to listen to the people and repent them. He on the other does not care about the sins individuals have committed because he is after their money only. Helping the sinned individuals does not motivate him: money does. He even goes as far saying he does not care where his money and other beloved items come from, even if it meant somebody died of starvation. This is shown in lines 160-63, ââ¬Å"I wol have moneye, wolle, cheese, and whete, Al were it yiven of the pooreste page, Or of the pooreste widwe in a village-Al sholde hir children sterve for famineâ⬠.Show MoreRelatedThe Wife Of Bath s Tale931 Words à |à 4 PagesElizabeth IniguezMrs. Alana HaughabooSenior English September 15, 2015Annotated Bibliography Shead, Jackie. Response To Beijing Games Book Free Essays
The field of sports has definitely gained an unquestionable significance and obvious implications among people and within societies. Such relevant characteristics concerning the sports discipline have resulted in making it as an important topic to be presented in a literary work. This is because facts and stories about sports are essential to be discussed in order for its underlying principles and messages to be learned and ultimately realized by the public. We will write a custom essay sample on Response To Beijing Games Book or any similar topic only for you Order Now Sports field in todayââ¬â¢s contemporary setting has achieved an apparent prominence. The said fame is attributed to the success of the quintessential sports event ââ¬â the Olympics. The advent and emergence of the Olympics have paved the way for recognition of various kinds of sports, their respective players or athletes and most importantly, the acknowledgement of the host countries where the said sports occasion is held every four years. The purpose, essence and valuable effects of Olympics to its host nation were what Susan Brownell (2008) effectively and successfully exemplified in her book ââ¬Å"Beijing Games: What the Olympics Mean to China. â⬠The Brownell material provided the public with clear insight about the meaning and effects of the 2008 summer Olympics to China. In the book, the author attained her goals and the narrativeââ¬â¢s worth when they efficiently imparted to the readers the importance of hosting the Olympic Games to the country of China. In doing so, the ââ¬Å"Beijing Gamesâ⬠book revealed that the meaning of Olympics to China lies on the reality that Olympics as Western civilization component can, in fact, possibly occur and affect the Far East culture. The attempt of Brownell and her book to emphasize the triumphant connection that transpired between Olympics and China led to the recognition of the beneficial impact of Olympic Games to China as well as the nationââ¬â¢s worldwide influence. The book therefore served as a very inspiring and awakening literary work where the effect and how Olympics change its host country as well as how China impacted and altered the Olympic were eventually realized. Written by Brownell months before the 2008 summer Olympic Games in Beijing, the book ââ¬Å"Beijing Gamesâ⬠is evidently topical to China in showing the nation as one of the powerful and influential countries in Asia or the Far East part of the world. In general, the work acted as defender of the history and sports background of China as well as its political structure. This was carried out by the book with its specific criticism against the Western cultureââ¬â¢s manner of interpreting and performing the Olympics (Brownell, 2008). ââ¬Å"Beijing Gamesââ¬â¢ was not purely sports-oriented as several historical, political and social facts and events relating to China were discussed such as the 1989 Tiananmen Square tragic incident. Hence, in organizing the book, the author made seven chapters that talked about a number of issues. These include the disparities between the respective historical encounters with Olympic sports or the physical endeavors of China and the rest of Western countries (Brownell, 2008). The book also presented how Chinese regarded their affiliation with the International Olympic Committee or IOC, the coverage made by Western media concerning China as a nation and its sports. Foremost these topics, the Brownell book is to be significantly noted by its intriguing yet powerful presentation on whether Beijing is destined to change the Olympicââ¬â¢s history and nature or vice versa (Brownell, 2008). In order to understand and appreciate better the Beijing Games book, it is empirically essential to analyze how the material appeared and considered by the readers. Additionally, it is valuable to react to the book by discussing both its main and weak points. In responding to the book, the general concepts which pertain to China and the Olympics are first to be evaluated. On the whole, the book is to be commended for its efforts at disclosing the ability of the Far East civilization to hold a global sports event such as the Olympics thereby making people realize that the quintessential sports activity should not be made exclusive to Western countries. Since China embarked on what seemed like a remarkable sports undertaking, the book asserted that it is but just practical to praise and commend the country for its firm principle and practice of bringing Olympics to the other side of the world. Due to its emphasis on the capability of China, the book is to be equally acclaimed because the author has successfully disputed a misleading and incorrect notion about the sports history and background in China. The book then did well in making the world recognize that Beijing aspiration to host the 2008 summer Olympics is attributed to an enormous desire to overcome a lasting wrong impression about Chinaââ¬â¢s inability towards sports or little or none at all connection with the said field. In asserting Chinaââ¬â¢s power and influence in sports, the bookââ¬â¢s notable criticism against the Western control of what is projected to be a global sports activity has worked to the advantage of China and the field of sports in general. This is because through the book, the international public was provided with the fact that the country has, in fact, rich and original sports background or nature. Based from the efforts of the author or the book, various political and social concerns that prevented sports from flourishing in China were presented, all aimed at ending the many forms of discriminations and misrepresentation on the function of Olympics sports in China and the apparent neglect done by Western cultures. Personally, I considered the book to be generally acceptable and commendable. While its organizational presentation appeared to be loosening, its principles and objectives made ââ¬Å"Beijing Gamesâ⬠as one literary material worth reading and referred to other sectors of the public aside from sports. This is because the book is supposed to impart important messages or lessons to anyone. That is, the field of sports is a universal discipline which needs to be equally adhered to and uphold by worldwide audience. The realization of the meaning of Olympics to China showed how the book ultimately achieved its very essence and goals. Reference Brownell, S (2008). Beijing Games: What the Olympics Mean to China. Conflict Management and Industrial Relations
Question: Discuss about the Conflict Management and Industrial Relations. Answer: Introduction: Conflict is such thing that is unavoidable at the workplace and this is because of the difference in workplace goals and due to the personal style. The resolution of conflict becomes very important component of workplace and the people in the leadership position needs to possess the skill in the technique of conflict resolution techniques (Adan Pkalya, 2014). The case study discusses about the conflict between the two people in a leadership position who are involved in a project. They are faced with the simultaneous conflicts at the workplace. Concept and understanding of conflict and its impact on organizational outcome As far as the two Fatima and Ahmed are concerned, the two have conflicts of management. The two are though sharing a project leadership; they are also have difference of priorities, because both the parties are having something to complain against each other. We have seen that Fatima complained of him, Ahmed himself becoming the boss and representing him as the leader of the entire project, which disappoints Fatima, as she feels left out of the leadership of the project, Fatima had complained of Ahmed not taking his consent in the decision regarding the project and others. She feels like she is working under him, which she is unwilling to do and she has complained of Ahmed treating him just as some other employee (Bomers Peterson, 2013). Similarly Ahmed has his complains which defends him. He says that Fatima is not equally responsible ad she does not contribute the same determination as she should be giving and she does not pay the much attention to the work going on in the project . Consequently he has to keep her informed about the whereabouts of the projects , the timings of the meetings and others ,he complains that she herself is responsible for lagging behind as a project leader ,rather he keeps her updated about the project details. Ahmed is of view that there is nothing to shout out so much and there is no need to feel left out with the feelings of power and titles. The types of conflict that existing between the two is the interpersonal conflict as the conflict is occurring due to differences in the nature of two individual and this type of conflict can prove to be destructive. The conflict is the result of personality clash between Fatima and Ahmed. They have widely different attitude and characteristics and the aim of one person is becoming inconsistent with the other. So ,all we can say is they have no mutual consent as the one busy in something else and the other feels being overpowered ,there are differences of opinions in between the two . They are suffering from simultaneous conflicts, which will ultimately deteriorate the overall productivity of the group (Choi, 2013). Interpersonal intervention to handle challenging personalities at workplace As we know that for successful project, one must have equality in responsibilities, mutual decision-making, lesser difference of opinions. In this case, both Fatima and Ahmed have differences regarding their priorities and reduced attention and regard. While Fatima has complained of feeling working under Ahmed, the latter has complained of being irresponsible towards the project work, so it becomes of prime importance for both the parties to become equally responsible for the running of the project (Tjosvold et al., 2014). Therefore, both the parties must be equally participative in decision-making, they must be willing to work for the project betterment whenever the conditions arises, there must be mutual consent in every matter regarding the project. Conflict mainly arises due to difference of opinions in between the two parties. So ultimately, they should keep their differences aside for the betterment of the project, which may otherwise result in the failure of the project. Both of them must be equally participative in the decision making process and should work out on their differential issues and they should work for their conflict management. Thereby Fatima must be equally responsible and should feel lagging behind and also Ahmed should not try to rule over and get bossy and should not make her feel underpowered (Johnson, 2016). Conclusion: The conflict resolution techniques are so developed because that both Fatima and Ahmed resolve their conflict. They are suffering from simultaneous conflicts, which would deteriorate the productivity of the overall group. Only responsible, careful and dutiful people can make an effective group, so it becomes significant to be dutiful towards their work. Both Ahmed and Fatima should try to resolve the issues between them by mutually understanding their responsibilities towards the project and space, authority to each other. Project and may even consequently result in project failure because for a successful project mutual consent plays a vital role, so all they need to do is equally active in participation be responsible and keep in mind that mutual consent and mutual decision is very necessary. XML and ebXML Essay Example
XML and ebXML Essay ebXML is an acronym which stands for ââ¬Å"Electronic Business Extensible Markup Languageâ⬠. From ebXML.org website, the description says that it is a modular suite of specification that enables global electronic market by allowing enterprises around the world to conduct business over the internet. It can be likened to the English language, although different people from different nationalities speak of different language, English is there to facilitate communication and that is why it is considered as the international language. In the same way, ebXML is the language or a tool which businesses can use to have better communication with each other. However, we are not referring to simple communications here, as we are referring to those complicated processes that are taking place in the context of the electronic business. The complexities of different forms of technology utilized by different enterprises have reduced the compatibility of data shared between enterprises electronically. High rate of incompatibility can be blamed from the fact that enterprises do not have one man who does the preparation of the information to be shared, but instead they rely most of the preparation to their own experts. Information systems used by different enterprises in most cases do not produce outputs of common format, and thatââ¬â¢s another issue of incompatibility. There came a time when XML was introduced to the market, and it was widely accepted and utilized in information sharing. However, the absence of one man to do the preparation is still a problem. XML based information shared by businesses where having different specifications, structures, and definition. Still businesses were not able to resolve the situation. This problem has long been recognized as a barrier to the success of enabling a global electr onic market. It has long been realized that the only solution is to develop a common or standard rules, tools, or guidelines of formatting information. It is also widely accepted that XML is effective and the problem with incompatibility between XML based information can be solved by creating an open technical framework containing to enable uniform and consistent use of XML. Many enterprises have long been sharing information through the use of Electronic Data Interface and this method is expensive. ebXML on the other hand is an economy-of-scale and implementation is easier because it can be implemented through the internet and other available networks. Enterprises no longer worry of the high cost of paying for hand carry, mail service, or make subsequent faxes, making phone calls to send information to other enterprises. It facilitates market expansion by locating potential businesses to partner with from different locations around the world. Thereââ¬â¢s no need to worry of incompatibility or misunderstanding. ebXML offers a single framework of exchanging XML based information which enterprises having access to the system can use. ebXML is secured. All information registered and shared in an ebXML system is authenticated and regulated by security policy set by the ebXML supporters. Its specifications are supported and continually updated by OASIS , UN/CEFACT, and many other organizations aiming for achieving international standardizations of business operation. ebXML achieved compatibility by providing enterprises with standardized message structures, standardized business process sequence, clear business semantics, and standardized business trading agreements. This makes business to business transactions processing quicker and efficient regardless of geographical locations as long as they are having access to the network running an ebXML compliant system. Sample ebXML implementations is the Dealersphere, a web-service based integration implemented for the auto industry. Car dealers who registered with dealership was connected to each other by the dealersphere engine plugged into dealerââ¬â¢s LAN. Other implementation was conducted supported by CECID and Hongkong government was deployed in eInvoicing System for Metro Operator (MTRC), eProcurement system for HMV Hongkong and Sony Hongkong, and the Dangerous Goods Manifests Submission System, and many others. Other CECID contribution to ebXML implementation is the Hermes (ebMS), and ebMail for freebXML,org website. Other implementations are the ebXML Messaging Services Interoperability and Conformance Validation Test conducted by eBusinessReady, Electronic hiring of temporary staff by European openExchange. Implementation of ebXML The prefix ââ¬Å"ebâ⬠may have made the term ââ¬Å"ebXMLâ⬠as different from XML. Implementing ebXML compliant document structures can be done manually or automatically. No need to worry about purchasing new machines, it is designed to be independent. It can run on machines which support standard internet transfer protocol and XML. Existing computer systems supports the two basic requirements. Doing it manually requires not only knowledge in XML, but also of the internationally agreed standards of how XML should be used. Details of how ebXML is to be implemented are found on ebXML specifications. OASIS and UN/CEFACT accepts membership for those who want to participate in ebXML world. By joining to these sites, you can work with international experts who are collaborating efforts for the development of ebXML, and promoting it to the global electronic market. On the other hand, doing it automatically means using application software which generates ebXML compliant documents. Using ebXML compliant software is quicker because it provides something similar to the click and drag environment. There are downloadable ebXML editor from freebxml.org. Enterprises can create their own network of ebXML users. However, there is one most important requirement for an ebXML enabled interaction between enterprises, and that is the registry. The registry is a central repository of all the business processes, business profiles, process specifications, and data interchange classifications. In short, a repository or registry stores all relevant information. The registry mush have a graphical user interface where users can query, update stored information, insert new information, etc. Free ebXML registry can be found on the internet. There are also existing ebXML registry which are already implemented in various places around the world. à One must only need to search for these registries, inquire, and then register. Once the registration is complete, a registered enterprise can start registering his business processes specification, business profile, and other information pertaining to its business. All information registered on the ebXML registry are made available to all visitors querying on th e registry, which made it easier to find potential business partners. Once business partners agreed to work together, they will sign a Collaborative Protocol Agreement. Once the agreement is finished, the participating parties can start working with one another. Conclusion ebXML is a very effective tool for engaging in a global electronic market. It is less expensive, easier to implement, and supported by international standards. Many enterprises will soon implement ebXML which will enable them to meet on the internet regardless of geographical location.

Latin Verbs and Infinitive Endings
Latin Verbs and Infinitive Endings An infinitive is a basic form ofà a verb that in English often is preceded by to and that serves as a noun or a modifier.à In Latin, infinitives are rarely used to indicate purpose, but rather are most often used to express indirect speech (oratorio obliqua). Latin Infinitive Basics When you look up a Latin verb in a Latin-English dictionary, you will see four entries (principal parts) for most verbs. The second entry- usually abbreviated -are, -ere, or -ire- is the infinitive. More specifically, its the present active infinitive, which is translated into English as to plus whatever the verb means. The vowel (a, e, or i) of the infinitive indicates which conjugation it belongs to. Example of a dictionary entry for a verb in Latin:Laudo, -are, -avi, -atus. Praise The first entry in the dictionary entry is the present, active, singular, first-person form of the verb. Note the -o ending. Laudoà I praise is a first conjugation verb and, therefore, has an infinitive ending in -are. The entire present active infinitive of laudo is laudare, which translates into English as to praise.à Laudari is the present passive infinitive of laudo and means to be praised. Most verbs have six infinitives, which have tense and voice, including: Present active (to praise)Present passive (to have been praised)Perfect active (to have praised)Perfect passive (to have been praised)Future active (to be about to praise)Future passive (to be about to be praised) Perfect Infinitives of Latin Verbs The perfect active infinitive is formed from the perfect stem. In theà example of a first conjugation verb, laudo, the perfect stem is found on the third principal part, laudavi, which is listed in the dictionary simply as -avi. Remove the personal ending (i) and add isse- laudavisse- to make the perfect active infinitive. The perfect passive infinitive is formed from the fourth principal part- in the example, laudatus, plus esse. The perfect passive infinitive is laudatus esse. Future Infinitives of Latin Verbs The fourth principal part also informs future infinitives. The future active infinitive is laudaturus esse and future passive infinitive is laudatum iri. Infinitives of Conjugated Latin Verbs In Latin, verbs are conjugated to indicate voice, person, number, mood, time, and tense. There are four conjugations, or verb inflection groups.à à Infinitives of a first conjugation Latin verb include: Present active- amare (love)Present passive- amariPerfect active- amavissePerfect passive- amatus esseFuture active- amaturus esseFuture passive- amatum iri Infinitives of a second conjugation Latin verb include:à Present active- monere (warn)Present passive- moneriPerfect active- monuissePerfect passive- monitus esseFuture active- moniturus esseFuture passive- monitum iri Infinitives of a third conjugation Latin verb include: Present active- regere (rule)Present passive- regiPerfect active- rexissePerfect passive- rectus esseFuture active- recturus esseFuture passive- rectum iri Infinitives of a fourth conjugation Latin verb include: Present active- audire (hear)Present passive- audiriPerfect active- audivissePerfect passive- auditus esseFuture active- auditurus esseFuture passive- auditum iri Interpreting the Infinitive It may be easy to translate the infinitive as to plus whatever the verb is (plus whatever person and tense markers may be required), but explaining the infinitive isnt as easy. It acts as a verbal noun; therefore, it is sometimes taught alongside the gerund. Latin Compositions Bernard M. Allen says that just under half of the time that an infinitive is used in Latin, it is in an indirect statement. An example of an indirect statement is: She says that she is tall. In Latin, the that wouldnt be there. Instead, the construction would involve a regular statement- she says (dicit), followed by the indirect part, with the subject she in the accusative case followed by the present infinitive (esse): Dicit eam esse altam. She says (that) she [acc.] is [infinitive] tall [acc.]. Allen says that Charles E. Bennetts New Latinà Grammar provides a rule for the tense of the infinitive that is only applicable to the present infinitive in an indirect statement. According to Bennetts rule: The Present Infinitive represents an act as contemporaneous with that of the verb on which it depends. Allen prefers the following: In Indirect Statements the present infinitive represents an act as contemporaneous with the time of verb on which it depends. In other substantive uses it is merely a verbal noun, without any tense force. Tense in Latin Complementary Infinitives As an example of why tense is a difficult concept with present infinitives, Allen says that in Cicero and Caesar, a third of their present infinitives follow the verb possumà to be able. If you are able to do something, that ability precedes the time of the statement. Other Uses of the Infinitive An infinitive can also be used as the subject of a sentence. The subjective infinitive is found after impersonal expressions like necesse est,à it is necessary. Necesse est dormire.it is necessary to sleep. Sources Allen, Bernard Melzer. Latin Composition (Classic Reprint). Forgotten Books, 2019Bennett, Charles. New Latin Grammar. Ithaca, NY: Cornell University, 1918.

Economic Geography - Essay Example vious recessions in 1990-1991 and 2001, the 2007 economic recession has run deep into the economy becoming the longest financial crisis since the great depression in the 1930s (Kaiser 3). Many states reacted by formulating large stimulus mechanisms in an effort to stabilize the economy. Other mechanisms were bailout of leading financial institutions, which included loans, guarantees and equity. The National Bureau of Economic Research and economists have indicated that the financial recession was triggered in the year 2006 by the broad economic malaise. The sharp deterioration in house prices reduced purchases of homes subsequently damaging the real estate market. Price deterioration extended to increased mortgage closure that subsequently led to massive losses in billions of dollars by leading banks in the country. The ultimate condition was tightening credit by financial institutions. The Federal Reserve Bank began to cut the discount rate and funds rate to no avail. Major Banks such as Lehman Brothers started filing for bankruptcy. Other banks opted to undertake mergers and acquisition.
